Achieving Your Dreams: Planning for Success Part II. Making Your Dreams Come True
What is a dream? To me, a dream is what you hope for, aspire to and desire. Dreams can be related to your profession, your family, your relationships. They can be
financial or health and well-being oriented. They can be fun and they can be serious.
In order to come up with dreams that are exciting and motivating, we need to understand what brings joy to our lives – what energizes and fulfills us. Last month, we went through a
process to discover and define our life passions and purpose. (To read last month’s issue, click here.) This month’s issue
will provide a guide to defining your dreams and creating strategies and activities to make them come true.
What are YOUR dreams?
Let’s take a few minutes to dream. Complete the statements below. Throw away any doubts and fears. Dream big. Go for the gold!
- My personal dreams is…
- My professional dream is…
- My family dream is…
- My relationships dream is…
- My financial dream is…
- My health and well-being dream is…
- My “just for fun” dream is…
- My other dreams are…
Once you have written down your dreams, look at each one and ask yourself:
- Does my dream resonate with my purpose? (See Issue 12.)
- Am I excited about my dream?
- Do I really want to make my dream come true?
If you answered “no” to any of these questions, choose another dream. If your dream does not resonate with your purpose and you are not excited about
your dream, it is less likely that your dream will come true.
How to Achieve Your Dreams
Your dreams can become your “goals.” Coach Diana Robinson, PhD, (www.choicecoach.com) writes:
To transform a dream into a reachable goal you must clarify it, provide the details, make it so clear that you can see it, feel it, know what you will feel like when you get
there. This works for you in many ways.
- It clarifies what you want to the point that you will always be attuned to anything that is relevant. Opportunities will not pass you by unnoticed.
- It shows you what you need to do to get there, step by action step.
- It makes false detours and dead ends less likely to distract you.
And perhaps the images you carry in your mind and heart will echo out to the universe for manifestation.
For each of your dreams, ask yourself, “How am I going to achieve this goal?” Think about the steps you need to take to make your dreams/goals come true.
For example, one of my dreams is to spend one month each winter in the Colorado Rockies. How can I make that dream come true? Below are the steps I need to take and the dates I
plan to accomplish each step.
- Determine which month I want to spend in Colorado in 2005.
April 2004
- Determine the approximate cost of transportation, lodging and expenses.
May 2004
- Begin saving the appropriate amount each month.
June 2004
- Research locations.
July 2004
- Research accommodations.
August 2004
- Determine and book location and accommodations.
September 2004
- Book transportation and lodging.
September 2004
- Determine how I will handle my coaching and consulting clients during the time I’m away. (Will I continue to serve them? Will I take the month off?)
October 2004
- Notify clients.
November 2004
- Go to Colorado!
February 2005
Now it’s your turn. List the steps you need to take to make each of your dreams come true.
Your Dreams Really Can Come True!
I recently received an email from one of the participants of my Achieving Your Dreams Tele-Forums. I’m sharing this with you so you can see how understanding your passions, defining
your purpose, creating your dreams, and designing goals and a timeline can really make your dreams come true.
I truly believe the tele-forum was in a way magical to me. Not only it came to me at the right moment of my life, I think the e-mails with Linda, just before the tele-forum, opened
my heart, my soul and my eyes. I opened myself to the possibilities of success and I am already seeing the results. I was “soul shrunk.” I was feeling defeated because I couldn’t find
a job. During the tele-forum, I started seeing the possibilities and seeing that I was my biggest obstacle. I decided to step on my purpose and things started to flow. I have already
passed three of four interviews at a very recognized corporation in which I could make the right amount of money to make my dream come true. I thank Linda for helping me stretch and
wear my soul the way it was meant to be. -- Sara Diaz-McKenzie
Share Your Dreams!
Don’t keep your dreams to yourself. Share them with your “dream team.” Talk to people who will support you in your dreams. If you’d like, email me your dreams and keep me
posted on your progress in making them come true. The more you talk about your dreams, the more likely they will come true!
